Design tour in partnership with Engineers Without Borders Australia

Simon Pursell, Mechanical Engineer, Sydney

Simon has been awarded a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade New Colombo Plan Scholarship to take part in a two-week, human-centred design tour. He will be travelling to Timor Leste in partnership with Engineers Without Borders Australia.

The tour will focus on sustainable health delivery, technologies and gender. Simon will visit health facilities and discuss health programs to gain an understanding of opportunities and challenges in delivering health care to rural communities. In conjunction with NGOs and university academics, Simon will put forward recommendations to community members regarding long term solutions to such challenges.

Floth has previously provided our services to East Timorese community from 2004 to 2007 as Mechanical, Electrical & Hydraulic Consultants for The East Timor Hospital project. This project covered the total refurbishment of the Dili National Hospital and its associated Central Laboratory. It also included the construction of three new regional hospitals in Oecussi, Maliana and Maubisse for the Department of Health, East Timor. The project provided the region with 100 new hospital beds to deliver quality health care to the East Timorese population.
