Green Credentials

At Floth, we believe the future of building services must integrate sustainability with practicality.

Tenants and investors are increasingly seeking healthier and more efficient places to live and work. The financial, organisational and environmental gains from green buildings are now too significant to ignore.

Floth provides a range of ecologically sustainable development (ESD) services suitable for new projects, or retrofitting older buildings. We have the expertise in targeting NABERS or Green Star ratings, in implementing alternative sources of energy generation, and reducing a project’s carbon output.

Our green results speak for themselves.

69 Robertson Street, Fortitude Valley – 1,041m2 of A-grade office space
Floth’s new Brisbane office and the group’s headquarters.

The first Green Star Design and As Built v1.1 certified rating in Australia.

A 53 percent reduction in operational carbon emissions is predicted from facade and integral building services improvements (compared to an equivalent Building Code compliant energy model). A roof-mounted solar photovoltaic system achieves a further 13 percent reduction, also equivalent to offsetting 28 percent of the building’s final operational energy. 100 percent accredited GreenPower purchased from Origin is the final piece of the zero carbon puzzle. Over the base building, both Floth’s and the eventual Level 1 tenant’s fitouts will effectively be zero carbon in operation by virtue of the 100 percent GreenPower supply. Notably the free electricity generated by the solar photovoltaic system will more than offset the additional operational cost of the GreenPower.

Floth has recently achieved a trio of Australian firsts for 69 Robertson Street, Fortitude Valley, namely:

  • The first Green Star Design and As Built v1.1 certified rating in Australia.
  • The first building in Australia that has formally and publicly adopted the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council’s (ASBEC) standard definition of a zero carbon building.
  • The first 6 star NABERS Indoor Environment rating in Australia for their tenancy at Level 2 & 3, 69 Robertson Street, Fortitude Valley.

69 Robertson Street has also recently won:

  • Winner of the 2017 Property Council of Australia Innovation and Excellence Awards for the Best Sustainable Development – New Buildings.
  • Winner of the World Green Building Council 2016 Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards for the Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance category for 69 Robertson Street, Fortitude Valley.
  • Winner of the 2016 UDIA (Qld) Awards in the Consultants Excellence category.
  • Finalist in the 2016 AIRAH Awards for Excellence in Sustainability category.
  • Finalist in the 2016 Premier’s Sustainability Awards in the Built Environment category.

Floth has also been instrumental in achieving other sustainability firsts such as 180 Brisbane, HQ Development and Green Square North Tower.

180 Brisbane – 57,465m2 of A-grade office space
The first 6 Star Green Star Office Design Version 3 Rating in Brisbane.
Floth designed a 100kW solar PV for the tower’s roof, which will reduce the CO2 emissions by 116,000kgs per annum. The use of the solar PV panels will also assist the tower in reaching and exceeding the targeted 5.5 Star NABERS Energy Base Building rating.

HQ Development – 39,000m2 of A-grade office space
Through Floth’s innovative designs, HQ received a score of 84 points – the highest score at the time of submission under the GBCA’s 6 Star Green Star Office Design v2 rating. HQ has also received a 5 Star NABERS Energy rating.
To assist with minimising the carbon footprint of HQ, Floth included a 1555kW co-generation plant – the largest co-generation plant in a commercial development at that time. The use of the co-generation plant has contributed to achieving a significant reduction in base building C0₂ emissions which have been modelled at 29kgCO2/m2/annum or 67% better than a NABERS Energy 5 Star rating, setting new bench marks for the industry.

Green Square North Tower – 23,500m2 of A-Grade office space
Queensland’s first GBCA 6 Star Green Star Office ‘As-Built’ V2 rated commercial building. This building incorporates Australia’s first operational co-generation plant in a commercial office building which, along with other design initiatives, reduced the building’s carbon emissions by an astounding 73% compared to a 4 Star NABERS rated Queensland office building.

Instead of a ‘one size fits all’ approach, we tailor ESD solutions for each project to achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients.
